This resurgence has continued through the first half of 2023. What can be expected as we reach the 2023 Fall Trade Show season and move into 2024?

David DuBois, President and CEO of the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) gives insight into what the future may hold:

“The general expectation among industry members is that 2023 will build on the industry’s performance in 2022 and bring continued recovery and growth. We are cautiously optimistic to see the number of in-person shows continue to increase and the key performance indicators for those shows moving in a positive direction. As recently reported by the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR), B2B events in the U.S. remain on track for a full recovery by 2024.” 

The resilience of the trade show industry is further supported by data cited in The Freeman Trends Report (Q2 2023). A sample group of 1551 exhibitors and sponsors was surveyed in April 2023 with the following notable results:

Over the next 12 months:

• 80% intend to exhibit at the same number of events or more
• A third intends to increase their exhibiting budget
• Budget allocations are largely the same as pre-Covid
• Most exhibitors are planning the same or more space than prior to the pandemic
