In an effort to establish fair measures and standardize freight pricing, the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) created the National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) system that classifies all commodities in the United States into one of 18 classifications. Effective August 5, 2023, there will be several changes to classifications that you should be aware of as a shipper.
